The Old World Collection

Distressed wood flooring made from old-growth French oak, worked by hand until the surface reads as though it has been walked on for generations. Solid planks throughout, in warm browns and softened greys, each one aged rather than salvaged. Old-style flooring with the depth of antique timber and the stability of a floor produced this year.

How New Oak Is Worked Into Old Style Flooring

The Old World Collection is our most accomplished interpretation of antique timber, an oak floor crafted to feel unmistakably historic. Using carefully sourced Old Growth French Oak, the boards are harvested with respect for the forest, then aged through a slow, time-led process that produces a depth normally associated with reclaimed material. The surface carries the calm irregularities, softened movement and lived-in warmth of older wood, while still offering the stability and performance of a newly manufactured floor. Ageing here is a specialist process, not a finish applied at the end. Each board is worked by hand using our exclusive Plucked technique – a process far beyond conventional wire brushing – which lifts and releases the grain to create natural variation, gentle undulation, and a tactile depth reminiscent of true antique oak. This means the wear falls where wear would naturally fall – along the edges, across the high points of the grain, and in the places a floor takes most of its traffic. Nothing is stamped, and no pattern repeats. Put two boards next to each other and the marks on them have nothing in common, which is the distinction between distressed oak flooring done properly and the machine-embossed alternatives sold under the same description. The result is a surface that feels both familiar and freshly reimagined: authentic in character, contemporary in execution, and unmistakably Re:claimed in spirit.

What Distressed Oak Flooring Does to a Room

Age in a floor is largely a matter of light. A flat surface takes light evenly and gives the room very little back. A worked surface breaks it up, so the same board reads warm and open near a window and much quieter in the corners, and the floor keeps shifting as the day moves across it. The colours pull in two directions. The browns settle against stone, plaster and old paint, and they suit rooms with some architectural weight already in them. The greys are cooler and more restrained, and they hold their own against steel, glass and pale walls where a warmer floor would dominate. Both take oil and wax well, and both settle into tone for years after they are laid, the way worked oak always does. What the collection offers is a room that reads as though it has already had a life, in a house that may only have been finished last month. The names carry the same idea. Blackfriar, Mayflower, Sheep Heid: each board borrows the name of an old inn, which tells you exactly the register this floor is pitched at.
