Yacht Decking FAQs
Is submerged wood an alternative to teak?
It offers a traceable alternative to Burmese teak for decks and interiors. Each species has its own performance, so suitability for marine use is confirmed species by species.
Which species suit a yacht deck?
Our concept studies show Saint Martin Jaune as a laid deck. Marine suitability depends on the species, and technical data is available on request for each one.
Can the same timber be used on deck and below?
Yes. A species can run from the deck into saloon joinery, cabins and furniture, so the whole vessel shares one material, subject to volume, grade and lead times.
Why hasn't the wood rotted under water?
Below roughly five metres (about 16 feet), the reservoir is virtually free of oxygen, so the fungi that cause decay cannot work and the timber hardly degrades. Recovery focuses on the deeper areas; wood from shallow or fluctuating water decays and is not used. Each species and batch is still graded, dried and technically reviewed before use.
I am a yacht designer or builder. How do we start?
Apply now for early specification benefits for decks and interiors. Start with material samples and a conversation with the Re:claimed team.
How is the origin documented?
Each batch ships with a Certificate of Guarantee of Origin, and the timber is harvested under a 25-year contract with the national forest office. That documentation can support BREEAM Mat 03 responsible-sourcing evidence; credits are confirmed by each project's assessor.
Do you supply projects in the US?
Yes. The collection is offered to projects in both the UK and the US. Start with samples or a presentation by video call; volume, grade, lead times and delivery are confirmed for each project at specification.
When can I order?
The collection is being introduced in the UK and the US now, with first projects delivered from 2027. Reservations for 2027 projects are open: request samples, book a presentation or download the catalogue.
