Antique Oak Flooring With a Bolder Grain
The Resawn Antique Oak Collection takes the most expressive boards from our grading process, where the character is too pronounced for our calmer Manoir Oak range. Boards that display stronger movement, heavier markings or more expressive surface detail are set aside for this collection, resulting in a material with greater presence and individuality. Still antique, still deeply refined, but with a bolder, more storied character suited to those after authentic reclaimed grain.
Resawing is the act of cutting through an old beam to produce boards from its interior. These aged beams are opened to expose the figure of oak that has been sealed inside a structural timber for two centuries. The grain at the cut is neither weathered nor worn. It is the interior of the tree, dense and figured, held in darkness since the beam was first squared. What appears on the plank face is a record of how the oak grew: drought years compressed into tight dark lines, good seasons laid down in broader, lighter bands, the whole pattern rendered in a density that faster-grown timber cannot produce.
The collection is engineered with a reclaimed oak top layer, stable enough for underfloor heating and contemporary build specifications.

How Resawn Oak Reads in a Room
Where calmer grades of antique oak flooring may recede into a room, a Resawn floor holds attention. The grain movement pulls the eye along the length of each plank, the markings shift in tone from one board to the next, and the surface reads as a material with a past rather than a product from a line. Dark brown and mid-brown tones run through the collection. Both are warm enough to anchor a room without darkening it, but the difference between them is register rather than palette: the same oak and provenance, one settled into deeper shadow, the other holding more of the original warmth.
Laid against pale plaster, dark metal, natural stone or contemporary joinery, the floor is the oldest element in the space. It settles into that role. The patina of two centuries of structural use comes through in the density of the grain, the figuring at the cut face, and the slight variation in colour from plank to plank that no controlled process can reproduce. Over time, the floor develops further character from the rooms it lives in, so the surface only deepens.
