Sussex, England
Step inside this warm, characterful family home — a romantic union of French country charm with Swedish Gustavian restraint. Timber ceiling beams, full-height garden-facing windows, a contemporary chimneypiece and engineered mountain oak in wide planks set the architectural rhythm. In contrast, herringbone parquet and salvaged oak introduce historic texture. The client preserved original features wherever possible and layered them with pieces of quiet pedigree: Pierre Frey linen sofas by I Gigi, vintage coffee tables, a Luke Irwin rug, antique Swedish seating, Carrara marble on Bulthaup cabinetry, and lighting by Hector Finch and Retrouvius. Each room occupies its own personality yet flows coherently through tone, grain and proportion. Cane furniture and crafted timber complete the scene in the newer veranda — panelled, painted in Farrow & Ball ‘Down Pipe’ and opening to a walled garden. Our oak boards deliver depth, texture and a timeless, lived-in calm beneath it all.
